Transition

The earliest changers have hit the ground: they're blanketing the grass outside my window. The trees are still mostly green, though; even in the shedding there are those that are ready sooner than the others.

I feel a quickening this time of year. Maybe it's that my birthday's coming--do we all love our birthday season best of all? Or maybe it's that fall has those magical occasions: kicking through leaves in the dark, wearing a witch's hat; feeling that thing--that something--in the first snowfall, in holiday music, in Santa Claus. In Linus's clogggy-headed recounting of the Christmas story. I don't know how it is that the most alive part of the cycle is the dying part: for me, it's all over on January 1. But I love this time of year.

Liam painted that pot and grew that plant from a seed. He smiles at it every day. "They can tell if you love them," he says, and I believe it. I kiss the flowers when they open: Liam's creation.

That Liam. He is always saying things that are so magnificent.

I love the Fall too. Happy early birthday. Exactly when IS it?

I second those birthday wishes, and for myself wish I could hug Liam every now and then...would you pass one along from me?

I too, love that season after the 100 degree days are gone and before the freezing rain begins, lol!

Of course, my birthday falls in the middle of the latter, but as long as I get to hang around and enjoy it, I shan't complain!

For me the advent of Daylight Savings Time is the time to get out the therapeutic lamp, since I can't affford to fly to the Antipodes.

Fall in the East can be beautiful, though.

I love fall also. The colors here are changing, a little early, but who cares.

So what are the children going to be for Halloween?? Kiran is thinking about being an angel.

I love the holidays at this time of year and it is such a let down when it is all over again.

Yes, it is nice to see from Inger's window, isn't it? Your words are always so eloquent and uplifting. Smile at the plant for me as well.

Take care,

My favorite time of year too...rich colors and scents. You're Liam is such a doll...both of them are. I haven't checked in on you in awhile (in fact Blogger doesn't even see to recognize me)...but you sound so beautifully settled.

and my favorite season is my birthday season, too (spring). i love fall, though, but not that winter follows it...so it's sort of bittersweet :)
