I didn't do it

Were there a test, though, that could tell me the truth, I'd believe an affirmative result; all humans are capable of being little shits now and then--even the adorable ones. She'd still protest that she hadn't done it: what other option is there, short of a collapse into the confessional, which would then have to encompass not only the human failure of anger, but also of dishonesty. The latter is the worse of the two. Once you choose to lie, it's very hard to reverse course.
I believe Lance Armstrong doped up, and I believe Floyd Landis did--and it doesn't particularly matter to me except that it takes away one more opportunity to cheer, and the world needs such opportunities. Floyd should come clean; there's honor in telling the truth.

so few heroes.
maybe hero worship is futile.
after all, humans are imperfect.
and that's okay.
I heard Diana Nyad (champion swmmer from years ago) say that it's time to draw a line in the record books and let them do whatever they want, at least then they'll be under a doctor's care instead of some trainer cooking things up in the kitchen...
There's no to test enough to stay ahead of them, and too many are truly harming themselves!

I'm surprised that Nyad would've said that, though it reflects, I think, how insidious the problem is. That would change the terms of the game, so nobody could play clean, post-line-in-the-sand--at least, not if they wanted to win out over all the other druggies.
I think it's worth trying to keep the tests up; they caught Landis, after all, though he denies it (as they all do; God help the truly innocent.)
I think we need to keep the tests in place. It is important for kids to see that they need to stay clean or they will get caught.
Yes, we are all imperfect but when it comes to following rules we need to. Did Landis really think he wasn't going to get caught?

I was very shocked to hear her say that; yet remembering how Lyle Alzado died, and I'm sure he's not the only one to die from the folly of "better living through (homebrewed) chemistry".
It's hard enough to make sure the things that are tested and trialed and that have jumped through all the hoops are safe, let alone some concoction that's supposed to alter nature without those benefits.

and yes, I would rather keep the tests and have everyone play by the rules...I'm just not sure it's going to happen!

I decree that there are so few honest role models left in the world.
We have to do better for our kids and for generations to come.
should be "agree" not "decree" but it kinda works that way too. I'm using a voice software, so it can make mistakes.
