Girls

5 hrs old. Distinctly pre-human, but still the most amazing thing.Five years. Every other kid pauses for the camera outside the church after the wedding. Maisie dances with the air.

Working on ten. Earrings, and the meaning of complete. Completely done with a child's things? Completely entranced with the person she'll become?

There'll come a point, maybe, when every little thing won't strike me as a new page in the album--when I won't blink fast and change the topic.

Or else you just learn to live with a permanent lump in your throat.

It's poignant when they grow up.

The only thing worse would be if they didn't.

See Lileks on the same topic.

Talia's first day of kindergarten was last Monday. I called to talk to she and Dillon to see how their first days went; Dillon told me all about math and recess. Talia wanted to tell me all about what she wore...

Girls and growing up....

One of the best single moms I know just sent her daughter off to college this week. The college is here in the metro, which makes it easier for Karin, but Chelsea has realized what she left behind and is feeling the freshman blues. Imagine that will be you in a few years and then it will be my turn.

Girls are wonderful but I love those little boys also.
