This is the Bone Yard--not, as you might think, the final resting place of dead aircraft, but in fact the resting place of ALL military aircraft capable of being returned to flying condition if the need ever arises. It's in the desert near Tucson. You can go there and buy a ticket to tour the place. When you do, consider two things:
1: The 3rd largest Air Force in the world is sitting on the ground here. 2: It's the only unit in the U.S. Air Force that actually makes a profit.
ah, yes, the Bone Yard....it's on the southeast side of town and i used to pass it regularly when i lived out in the country. it was the fastest route to I-10....and creepy as hell, the first few times i drove past it. how many millions of dollars are just sitting there? and many of these planes are archaic now....so there they sit....
I used to read a lot of aviation stuff as I was growing up. Guys who had been there spoke of the howls and groans that came from the aircraft there on windy nights, like those of caged beasts waiting their return to freedom...

There are lots of commercial aircraft in the Mojave, too.
How much money is tied up in those planes?
