Photo Sunday!

It was an uncomfortable evening, though; my friends--work friends; the only kind I had in Baltimore, workaholic that I was then--grinned a lot, cooed over the baby, and assiduously avoided a whole landscape of conversations that could lead to anything remotely touching on what on earth I was going to do next, earning $28K and a single mother. These were educated urban white people; we didn't go and have babies on our own.
I quit the nonprofit and took a job I never cared for at three times the salary, and having never known me any other way, the new crowd embraced me and the girl without batting an eye. Three years later, when I took leave to go to India and pick up Liam, they sent me a letter that still makes me weep when I look at it--so packed with love and support and sincerity.
I get Christmas cards still from the for-profit crowd. When I run into the nonprofit one at the annual book fair, they run out of words after "You look great!" Makes me so sad, really; I loved them.

I love this Sunday Photo stuff.
Little Angel on your lap, ummmmm!

I also love learning what was going on at the time, so interesting.

My...I loved that comment about the kids dressing better than MOM. Hey Ms. Inger, that says it all.
I, like RQM and all the others, love this Sunday Photo Day and I do indeed love you my dear!

tee hee, but it's all true....great pic, great post!
baby clothes are so much fun to buy--and thrift stores are usually a great source of the more spendy labels!
and, re: the other part: we never know where our allies will be. sometimes where we least expect them.
my 'urban hermit'-age defines me more and more, and my friends are the ones who accept it, and don't give me grief me when i finally show up in public. which does happen upon occasion.
:)
Inger-I understand the comment about the kids dress better then the mom... It is like that at this house and at my house growing up.
Love the photo....
what a pretty baby you have.
overalls were a major staple, with my babies.
friendships most definitely change, when we become parents. i had no idea how true that was, until i began having them.
you say things so well, inger. i always appreciate the beauty of your words.
What a fabulous post. Maisie and Liam are so fortunate to have you as their role model in life!!!
xo,
Deb

and a good and loving mom.. what a combination!
ps
sending energy for the big thing today
wishing good things happen for you.. whatever they may be...
" and having never known me any other way, the new crowd embraced me and the girl without batting an eye."
It is a beatuful thing to be accepted just as you are...
That is such a cute picture of the 2 of you.
It really is interesting to look back and different times in our life and the different friends we had back then.
My skinny pal, Inger...
How was the interview yesterday?

peacemas...
dang dang dang. You are so beautiful. I love your face. It's so striking. Hmmm....the non-profit thing makes me think of they way a church would treat me after leaving it.
"J" has a much better wardrobe than I do. I swear I'd be in the soup line if I had another girl.
