Monday and Tuesday

The interview was splendid. I'm afraid to talk about it--afraid to jinx it. No doubt dozens of thoroughly qualified people trooped into their offices after I left, and it's anybody's guess who gets the final nod. (Equally doubtless: my farflung home base is as much a drawback to them as it is to me, though they didn't bat an eye.) Can't hope. We'll see.

What was interesting, though, was getting a taste of what the world might be like in a truly woman-run environment. Not women-as-men--women who train to compete in the same language with the same tactics as men--women who must suppress an entire universe of their reality to appear competitive and dedicated. This woman--the one I'm dying to tell you about--is no chest beater. She smiles and her eyes crinkle up, and she doesn't ask interview questions: she just talks, and sets you at ease, and sprinkles her conversation with asides about the state of the world and the earth, and politics, and how frightening it is to raise up children now. She laughs and throws her head back--she flatters and engages, and in the end those of us trained in interviewing the other way worry that time is slipping away and ask, "Is there anything you want to know about me?" and she'll say, "Oh, tell me about your kids!" And you know that she's not asking to hold it aga
inst you later, but because she has kids of her own.

It was a lovely hour. Even if nothing comes of it, it made me so, so happy.

And look where I got to be yesterday because I wasn't hoofing it into Manhattan for a job. Liam made a gingerbread house at school. And Maisie's Dad came to visit to see her school holiday concert. Everybody's happy.

Just breathe. Listen to your heart. Do what you think best....and trust yourself whichever way you go. Sometimes options present themselves that we haven't considered.

Oh. I love this post. That sounds so exciting. The suspense is too much. You sound so smart, sure and secure. That is cool. I wish you best and they should definitely hire you with the wisdom and ease and political savvy that you possess.

Sounds like a good day, all in all. I have done quite a lot of interviewing in the past year and these "get accquainted" sessions seem to be the in thing. Thank goodness for a more laid back approach I say. Good luck on the job...if you do indeed want it. :)

a woman with kids of her own might even be more inclined to be flexible w/scheduling. what a concept!

Hi Inger... it was nice to see you stop by... i have missed you!

But I completely understand that kids make this time of year busier by 10X than when there are no kids..

so much more fun tho!

I wish you energy to go with your happy ! :)

here are links to look at my wreaths..

These buttons are all between 50 and about 80 ( or more maybe.. ) years old..

When I was a little girl i would play with them on the dining room table... and there was a neighbor lady who was a little slow.. and i taught her to count with them..

they mean a lot to me.. and i hated that they were in a box in the basement..

I thank you so much for showing me a way to pass them on..

my wire worked.. but only because my sister ( bless her crafty heart) picked it up for me..

i couldn't figure oout how to put the ribbon hangers on, and a bow too.. so they look a little flakey but hey..
they were made with love.. and they go in the mail tomorrow.
